As some of you know, on Saturday, June 21, we will wash the feet of the homeless in South Dallas.
We're calling the day "4Feet" -- here's why:
There are two feet being washed and two feet doing the washing. Although the non-homeless are washing the feet of the homeless, we all have feet that get dirty, and we all need them cleaned. Even as we serve those that are homeless by washing their feet, they serve us by opening themselves up to such an intimate, personal experience.
Below are the updated details of the day (if you read the first post about this, please now refer to this new one, as it will have the most up-to-date info from now until June 21):
Saturday, June 21 Schedule
9:00 a.m. -- breakfast burritos and prayer
9:30 a.m. -- volunteers set up coffee and feet-washing stations
10:00 a.m. -- feet washing begins
11:30 a.m. -- lunch arrives
12:30 p.m. -- clean up
1:00 p.m. -- go home!
How You Can Be Involved
- Come on June 21. Here are different roles people can play that day:
- Wash Feet
- Clean Water Bins between feet washings
- Spend time hanging out with and talking to those that come
- Pray for us, either from home or come down and pray during the event.
- Come down just for lunch, and help us pass out food and drinks.
Finally, please understand that we have no way of predicting what this day will look like. We may have one person all day who wants their feet washed -- or we could have 25. We are going down to be present and wash people's feet as they want them washed.
If you are not connected to this event through an individual who knows you are coming, please email me at elisabeth19@gmail.com, and let me know you will be joining us.
Everyone is welcome; we are just trying to get a head count related to supplies and food.
Thanks to the many different people who have offered to provide supplies, or gather volunteers, or provide lunch, or provide funds to support our work. You are greatly appreciated!
A special thanks to Mokah for providing coffee for the homeless men and women who join us on the 21st!
Attire
Be comfortable and casual. If you are one of the people actually washing feet, you may be kneeling on the ground, so take that into consideration!
Location
We will meet at the corner of Malcolm X and Dawson St. in front of a large gray building called The Opportunity Center. See map below.
